PURPOSE:  A Staff Nurse works under the direction of the School Nurse to assist the nurse in providing care and maintaining records for all students in the school, while adhering to strict confidentiality statutes.
 
FUNCTIONS
  1. The Staff Nurse shall be aware of nurse’s daily schedule and activities.
  2. The Staff Nurse shall provide care of illness and/or injuries according to Plum Borough School District’s Standing Orders and Red Cross guidelines. Also shall notify the School Nurse of any emergency situation or any student circumstances alluding to threats, self-harm or suspected abuse of any kind.
  3. The Staff Nurse shall assist the School Nurse in the detection and control of communicable diseases and conditions.
  4. The Staff Nurse shall assist the School Nurse with all Pennsylvania state mandated health services such as heights, weights, vision and hearing screenings, medical and dental exams, immunization tracking, tuberculosis testing, etc.
  5. As directed by the School Nurse, the Staff Nurse shall perform clerical duties such as, but not limited to:
  6. Assisting in preparing and maintaining health records for all students.
  7. Assisting in compiling, typing the Confidential Medical Problem list and distributing it to teachers and other appropriate district employees.
  8. Assisting in preparing health packets for kindergarten or other new student’s orientation.
  9. Assisting in maintaining logs and distributing and collecting all forms that relate to the health and wellness of students, parents, and school employees.
  10. Assisting by typing letters, memos, and reports, and entering computer data as required.
  11. Assisting to keep forms and documents accessible in the health room such as the Nurse’s Schedule, the Staff Nurse’s Schedule, Standing Orders, Guidelines for Communicable Diseases, Categories of Emergencies, and any other documents as directed by the School Nurse.
  12. The Staff Nurse shall assist the School Nurse in organizing, maintaining, and replenishing the health room supply inventory.
  13. The Staff Nurse shall maintain a clean, orderly and attractive health room environment which includes hanging posters and updating bulletin boards.
  14. The Staff Nurse shall perform other such duties as may be assigned by the School Nurse, Principal, or the Superintendent.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:  
  1. Must have RN License
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Medium, max. lift 50 lbs., frequent lift/carry - up to 10 lbs.

  1. Ability to work as a member of a team.
  2. Must be courteous and able to effectively communicate with people.

  4. Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.

  1. Visual acuity to read correspondence, computer screen.
  2. Auditory acuity to be able to use telephones.

  3. Ability to read, write, and do complex computations.

  1. Ability to operate office equipment.
  2. Ability to use computer technology efficiently.
  3. Must appropriately handle confidential information.
