World Languages Teacher

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the building principal, the world languages teacher will teach a specific language that includes instruction in literature and cross-cultural studies. The world languages teacher is a master of their language and demonstrates a high proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the language they are teaching. The world languages teacher will create an environment for students to learn effectively by teaching several levels concurrently from beginning speakers to students approaching fluency. Instruction will include vocabulary, grammar, and accent as well as spelling and other mechanics of language.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Keeping abreast of best practices in world languages. 
  • Organizing opportunities for students to become immersed in the culture of the language being studied.
  • Be willing to organize a club for language students to become familiar with the target culture and language through: 
-Visual and performing arts activities (i.e. song, dance, music, skits) 
-Social Studies activities (i.e. meal preparation, authentic games, holiday celebrations, geography exploration, and study of history)
-Mathematics concepts (i.e. color, shape, size, time)
-Science concepts (i.e. comparing and contrasting)
-Language Arts Literacy activities (i.e. writing, illustrating, labeling pictures, charts or diagrams) 
  • Engaging parents and families in their student's learning and acting as an ambassador for the school in the community. 
  • Contributing productively to the school as a whole. 
  • Attending and participating in school events outside of regular school hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current best practices in the area of world language teaching. 
  • Be committed to meeting the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Have a track record of being a team player and community minded.
  • Be committed to their own learning.
  • Have excellent time management skills, flexibility, and ability to work independently and problem solve.
  • Adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • PDE Certification - Master’s in Education preferred 
  • American Sign Language or Latin preferred 
  • Additional subject area certification(s) a plus 
  • CPR and First Aid training a plus
