Special Education/Skills Instructor for Correctional Education Facilities @ Tuscarora Intermediate Unit 11

The Tuscarora Intermediate Unit 11 invites applicants for a Special Education/Skills Instructor for Correctional Education Facilities.

Fundamental Duties/Essential Functions 1. Review special education records, complete all special education paperwork and run IEP meetings. 2. Complete and maintain related data for students. 3. Be responsible for the care and training of students which includes all instruction responsibilities. 4. Collaborate with instructional assistants to ensure IEPs are implemented appropriately. 5. Keep abreast of new techniques and technology that increase teaching ability. 6. Report progress to parents formally by reports via correspondence, IEP meetings or as needs arise. 7. Attend required in-services or workshops. 8. Recognize when students need referred for services by an outside provider. 9. Report problems to Educational Director or designee. 10. Note behavior that is not normal for a student and report to the supervisor. 11. Be able to use safe crisis management. 12. Have daily schedule and lesson plans available for substitute teachers use and for periodic review. 13. Work in conjunction with classroom instructors to provide appropriate instructional programming and special education services. 14. Communicate student’s goals to regular education teachers and provide support as appropriate. 15. Perform other tasks as assigned by the designated supervisor.
As well as: Fundamental Duties: 1. Provide training and instruction to assigned students. 2. Develop and implement individualized plans of instruction (IPI). 3. Prepare and submit reports as required. 4. Provide learning support to the assigned students. 5. Keep staff abreast of students’ programs. 6. Develop/maintain updated student records and reports. 7. Attend in-services and workshop meetings, as required. 8. Maintain the care and inventory of books, supplies, etc., provided by the IU. 9. Ability to utilize technology for instructional and classroom management purposes. 10. Adhere to all Institutional and IU security, safety and program requirements. 11. Report to the Educational Director or designee any problems or concerns which may arise during the school year. 12. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director of Correctional and Alternative Education or designee.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Individuals must possess skills, knowledge and abilities and be able to demonstrate essential functions of the job. 1. Knowledge of the Pennsylvania Special Education Regulations and Standards. 2. Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). 3. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, using the English language. 4. Ability to lift and carry 50 pound items. 5. Ability to employ interpersonal skills so as to effectively collaborate with school administrators, staff, parents and agency personnel.
Qualification Standards: 1. Education: Possess a Pennsylvania Certificate for Instructional I or II, Mentally and/or Physically Handicapped. 2. Education: Possess a Pennsylvania Certificate for Instructional I or II, Social Studies, English or Related Certification 3. Special Education and Correctional Education preferred A review of this job description has excluded the marginal functions of the position that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties.
