Accounts Receivable & Benefits Specialist

POSITION:                         Accounts Receivable & Benefits Specialist (FS-8AS-ARBS)

Education and Experience:
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; AA/AS, BA/BS level accounting classes or Accounting Degree preferred 

Minimum Experience: 3-5 years hands-on accounting and benefits administration experience, preferably in an educational setting 

General Definition:  

The Accounts Receivable & Benefits Specialist performs a variety of accounting and bookkeeping duties according to established policies and procedures related but not limited to accounts receivable.  Additionally, performs all employee benefit-related functions such as enrollments and terminations. 
Description of Duties:   

  • Responsible for processing all departmental invoicing in accordance with organization practices and client/district contract agreements.
  • Prepares and manages monthly check run for travel expenses for all employees.
  • Prepares and manages all student activity bookkeeping processes.
  • Coordinates the enrollment, administration, tracking, and reporting of benefits for active and retired employees. This includes all IRS, ACA, and PSERS annual notices, reporting, and/or filing requirements.
  • Verifies and processes monthly payments related to insurance billing such as medical, dental, vision, life, and disability.
  • Attends the monthly Healthcare Consortium meeting and assists with any benefit audits and reporting needs.
  • Ensures accurate payroll deductions for benefit participation.
  • Communicates effectively with active and retired employees on benefit-related questions.
  • Invoices and collects monthly retiree premium contributions.
  • Utilizes computerized accounting software program to effectively perform duties and responsibilities.
  • Serves as the contact and coordinator for tuition reimbursement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:    

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and applicable accounts receivable/general ledger system.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and work efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to listen, communicate (written and verbal) effectively with all staff levels and customers.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Current and former Westmoreland Intermediate Unit employees must have demonstrated proficiency in job assignments.

Clearances must be current within 5 years from date of hire and a School Personnel Health Record current within 1 year from date of hire accompanied by Tuberculosis Test Result within 3 months of date of hire. 
Travel Requirements:    

  • A minimal to moderate amount of travel is required for this position within Westmoreland County and throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Must have reliable transportation
